Born February 3, 1919 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Matt and Ida Simpson Coffman. He was a retired steel worker, a US Navy Vetern of World War II, a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God. He was the husband of Betty Burns Coffman. Survivors besides his wife include four sons: Edward Coffman of Harrodsburg, Gary Coffman of Tucson, Arizona, Larry Coffman of Shelbyville, Rick Coffman of Harrodsburg. Three daughters Jean Dattilio of Salem, Ohio, Sue Ward of Harrodsburg and Virgie Savage of Mercer County. One step son Terry Baker of Southport, North Carolina, and two step daughters Jackie Long of Salvisa and Joetta McCrystal of Harrodsburg. One brother Obert Coffman of Perryville, one sister Mollie Lamb of Lexington. Twenty two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Roger Coffman, one daughter Dixie Carol Coffman four brothers John, Charlie, Vester, Linzie Coffman and two sisters Lizzie Grimes and Dilly Lewis. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Hilary Claypool officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Lincoln County with Ernest Coffman, Johnnie Coffman, Kenneth Coffman, Michael Bottoms, Bill Bottoms, Jerry Preston, and Kenneth Bottoms serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday and after 7:00 Am Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
