Ky Deed Book B P. 186 Written: September 27, 1830 Recorded: October 1, 1830 We the undersigned being appointed by the Spencer County Court to lay off and allot to SARAH COLLINGS widow of BENJAMIN COLLINGS Dec’d her Dower in the land slaves and personal estate of which her Dec’d husband died seized and possesed of 27 Sep 1830 and being sworne and having ascertained the quantity of land belonging to said COLLINGS dec’d finding the tract to contain 183 3/4 acres and & 33 poles we then proceeded to lay off and allot to SARAH one third part of said tract of Land on the west bank of Plum Creek on a line of MATTHEW NELSONS and running thence with NELSON’s line south... to a stone near a branch of the south side of the road leading Shelbyville to Shepherdsville thence south to the bank of Plum Creek ... containing 56 acres 1 quarter 11 poles together with the Mantion house and other out building barn and stables. We then proceeded to allott the said SARAH COLLINGS her dower in the slaves of te said BENJAMIN COLLINGS Dec’d there being 4 in number and their names are as follows: negro man named JAMES $400.00 negro man named MAJ $300.00 negro woman named JUDIE $268.00 negro girl named DELIAN $175.00 Total value $1140.00 - one third of value $380.00 Mrs. SARAH COLLINGS then made her choice of the negro man named JAMES valued at $400.00 which allot to her part of the slaves of her said husband Dec’d by the said SARAH COLLINGS paying $20 to the executors out of her part of the personal estate which she the said SARAH COLLINGS agreed to pay and they allotted to the said SARAH all that part of the field of corn that lies in the bottom field below the barne supposed to be about 18 acres whcih was appraised at $4.25 per acre $75.50 (A long list of personal property was also assigned the widow).
