OBIT: Cornett, 1997 - born Perry Co TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, LAWRENCE CO., INDIANA Vernon Cornett Feb. 9, 1924-Nov. 6, 1997 WILLIAMS -- Vernon Cornett, 73, Williams, died at 5:56 p.m. Thursday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford after a brief illness. Born in Hazard, Ky., he was the son of Boyd and Mary (McLemore) Cornett. He married Phyllis Wright in 1951 and she died in 1966. He married Barbara Reynolds in 1967, and she survives. He retired as a heavy equipment operator in 1973 from the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Williams. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Cornett of Williams; two stepsons: Tom Reynolds of Williams and Rick Reynolds of Bedford; four brothers: John Cornett, Fred Cornett and Walter Cornett, all of Williams, and Leonard Cornett of Shoals; three sisters: Georgia Plummer of Williams, Sally Davies of Talladega, Ala., and Hattie Bowman of Montgomery, Ala.; five step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Lawrence, Robert, Bill and Troy Cornett; and one sister, Bertie Keith. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with Pastor Dana Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
