Daughter of the late Joseph M. Johns and Mattie Ocella Henson Johns, she was born in the Elkhorn Community in Taylor County, Ky., on Oct. 13, 1902, and was a member of the Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church. She was married to William G. Dearen on Aug. 25, 1920, and they farmed in Taylor and Washington Counties in Kentucky and in Illinois during their early married life. They moved to Nelson County in 1937 and farmed there until 1976. In their later years they retired to Campbellsville, and lived there until Mr. Dearen's death on Sept. 16, 1986. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, William H. and Jenelle Oakley Dearen and Victor M. and Donella Hume Dearen, all of Fort Myers, Fla. and Joseph W. and Lunette Barlow Dearen of Louisville; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister, Alvin Johns, Ben Johns, Victor Johns, Leonard Johns, Jack Johns, Gatton Johns and Mary Johns Miller.
