W G HUGHES, Committee for Charles Thomas DENHAM, a pauper idiot and W S MAXEY his security to hereby covenant to and with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, that the said W G HUGHES shall faithfully perform all and every duty incumbent upon him as committee aforesaid. /s/ W G HUGHES, W S MAXEY, 11 Apr 1888. The following information was shown: In inquest was held 3 Jan 1888 to inquire about the state of mind of Charles Thomas DENHAM who is charged with idiocy. W A BULLOCK, attorney was appointed to defend him. The jury consisted of: J B CRAWFORD, J A WILLIAMS, H L BAILEY, C A AUSTIN, Wm COMER, J N HAMMER, John NEAL, Tobias VANCE, O D SPEAR, W S SMITH, J T McMILLIN & W H PAGE. Findings: He is 10 years old, was born in Monroe Co; parents ae living in the county and have no property with which to support him. The boy has no property in possession. He is not able for want of mental capacity to take care of himself or to labor in whole or part for his support. He has not been brought into this state to become a charge upon its treasury. Said idiots' minds gradually grow worse and he is harder to control. The mother is not able to labor and in bad health and the father is not able to labor more than half the time. /s/ J B CRAWFORD, one of the jury. It is adjudged by the Court that Charles Thomas DENHAM is of unsound mind and an idiot and that he is a fit subject to become a charge of the treasury of the State of Kentucky and that W G HUGHES be appointed a committee to take charge of said idiot and provide for him suitable diet, clothing &c and that he be allowed Seventy five dollars per annum from this date, and said committee must execute bond before the Clerk of this Court for the faithful performance of his duty as said committee.
