Born July 12, 1939, in Chattahoochee, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Marsha and Leonard Bates Sr. She was a nurse and a member of First Baptist Church, Danville. She was also a member of the Elks club. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl D. Effiom of Cincinnati; two sons, Tai D. Doram and Damarintae S. Fischer, both of Danville; three brothers, Leonard J. Bates Jr. of Danville and Alfonso Campbell and Hubert Floyd, both of Youngstown, Ohio; a sister, Betty Stanford of Danville; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Doram III. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 2nd and Walnut streets, by the Rev. Richard Hill and Larry Weather. Burial will be in Hilldale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Montgomery, Ronnie Beasley, Ricky Campbell, Alfonso Campbell Jr., Norman Fisher and Larry Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bate Senior High Class of 1958. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Smith-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ______________________________
