Johnston/Bowling, 1845, Washington Co LAND DEED: Joseph Johnston to James William Bowling to Elizabeth Doyle Whereas Joseph Johnson having departed this life some years and before his death made and published his last will and testament and in said will devised to his grandson James W. Bowling a certain tract of land supposed to contain about 50 acres, first giving to Monica Bowling mother of the said James W. Bowling a life estate in said fifty acres of land and it at her death to go to the said James W. and whereas the said Monica Bowling and her husband William Bowling did on the 16th day of September 1837 execute to John B. Wheelan (Whelan) a bond to convey to said Wheelan a deed for said land when the said James W. Bowling should arrive at the age of twenty one years and the said John B. Wheelan having assigned said bond to Elizabeth Doyle, and whereas the said Monica Bowling having departed this life - now this indenture made betwween James W. Bowling of Davis County and State of Indiana of the one part and Elizabeth Doyle of the County of Washington and State of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth that the said James W. Bowling for and in consideration of one hundred and seventeen dollars and 82 1/2 cents to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has this day granted bargained and sold and by these present doth grant bargain sell and convey unto her the said Elizabeth Doyle all the right, title, interest and claim whatever be the said James W has or derived by the said last will and testament of the said Joseph Johnson decd to said land which land is situated in the County of Washington on Cane Run waters of the Beech Fork and adjoining the land of Thomas Craycraft, Sen.?, Richard Berry, John B. Montgomery dec'd land, James Hinton and others and supposed to contain fifty acres more or less. To have and to hold to her the said Elizabeth Doyle her hus'd and the said James W. Bowling covenants to and with the said Elizabeth Doyle that he will warrant and forever defend the title to the said lands against all claims whatever. In witness hereof the said James W. Bowling has hereto set his name and affixed his seal the 29th day of March 1845. /s/ James W.
