He was born May 25, 1953 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the son of Johanna Engel TaBorg and the late Heinz Engel.
 
Fred was the former Executive Director of SLI Lighting in Mullins, SC. He was the current owner of his own consulting firm.
 
Survivors include his wife Sherry Carman Engel.

3 daughters: Holly Pate of Stephensport,KY Samantha (Kyle) Bennett of Irvington,KY Nikki (Vachel) Hinton of Falls of Rough,KY
8 grandchildren: Joshua, Mason, Austin, Flint, Brett, Hannah, Avery and Katie his brother - Niko Engel and 2 half brothers: Rob and Ed Engel amd their children of The Netherlands.
3 brothers-in-law: Bobby(Faye) Carman of Hardinsburg,KY
Bruce(Twanda) Carman of Merritt Island,FL Joey Carman of Irvington,KY
1 sister-in-law: Susan (Mike) Jeffries of Owensboro,KY
2 nieces: Salina (Darrell) Johnson and Danielle Cleary
2 nephews: Charles(Cindy) Carman and Chris(Dana) Carman
 
Funeral services were held on Monday, 4-28-2008 at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carman officiating.
