FAIRLEIGH DIES IN OWENSBORO AT AGE 79, WAS BORN IN MEADE COUNTY. A LIFE LONG REPUBLICAN AND CASHIER OF THE MEADE COUNTY DEPOSIT BANK UNTIL ITS LIQUIDATION -- Brandenburg, Ky (Meade County) October 30, 1899 (Special) Mr. James L. FAIRLEIGH died at noon last Thursday, October 26, 1899, in Owensboro, Ky (Daviess County), at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chapeze WATHEN from acute pneumonia, after an illness of 5 days. Mr. FAIRLEIGH was born in Meade County, Ky in 1820. At one time he lived in Rumsey, Ky, where he was in the sawmill business with his brother, Henry FAIRLEIGH and he was engaged for many years in the dry goods business here (Brandenburg). He was a life long Republican, and served as Chief Deputy in General MURRAY'S office when he was U.S. Marshal, and made his home in Louisville, Ky (Jefferson County). He came back to this place and was a most efficient, reliable, cashier of Meade County Deposit Bank from its organization to its liquidation a little over a year ago. He then went to Owensboro. Mr. FAIRLEIGH was a devout Methodist, having embraced religion early in life. He was a Sunday School Teacher in his younger days. He was twice married. Each wife was a Miss MURRAY. By his first union, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. J. W. LEWIS of this place (Brandenburg). Jane MURRAY whom he married fifty-odd years ago, survives him and by whom he leaves three children: David FAIRLEIGH of Louisville, Ky Andrew FAIRLEIGH of Louisville, Ky Mrs. Chapeze WATHEN of Owensboro, Ky' two sisters: Mrs. Mary STUART of Brooklyn, New York Mrs. Letitia WILSON of Pinkeyville, Illinois two brothers: Judge C. C. FAIRLEIGH of Brandenburg, Ky John S. FAIRLEIGH of Indianapolis, Indiana The remains were brought to Mr. J. W. LEWIS'S home on Friday, October 27, 1899, where the Reverend A. D. LEITCHFIELD, of the Methodist Episcopal Church read the beautiful, touching, burial service of the church. Prayer and singing followed.
