To: KYF Subject: Fogle.Gordon.1945.Casey.NEWS Lt. Fogle Writes From Japan November 1945 Casey County KyArchives News THE CASEY COUNTY NEWS , 1945 The family of Marine Lt. Gordon Fogle at Yosemite, some few weeks ago recieved the following letter:Dear Folks, It is a real thrill being here among the first transports to arrive in Tokyo Bay. We are allowed to tell that we are here and believe me it is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I remember when we were back in the states the theme song was "Good-by Mamma I'm off to Yokohama". Well, surprisingly enough we are at last in the heart of Japan much sooner than any one of us ever anticipated. The envelope in which I'm sending this letter was printed for the Navy by one of the powerful ships operating off Japan and is a real souvenir, something to keep, to show and be proud of. I wish very much that you were here to see Mount Fuijima, the Emperors Palace, and of course the destruction inflicted by our navy and army planes. Sincerely hope you get a kick out of this and that we will be togather again soon.
