Ora Alice Butler Franks, the daughter of William and Alice Hendricks Butler, was born on October 31, 1876, at Mt. Zion, Kentucky. She was united in marriage to J. G. Franks of Odessa, Mo., on April 13, 1899. They set up housekeeping on a farm in Kentucky, where Mr. Franks raised horses and mules. Since 1903 they have lived near and in Canton, with the exception of 20 years when they were in Colorado for her health. Mrs. Franks was recognized for her skill in needlework, and after reaching the age of 75, took up oil painting. Her paintings were exhibited in a number of shows, and one of them received a second place ribbon in the Quincy Art show, the first exhibition she entered. Survivors include her husband; a son, Hendricks Franks of Canton; two grandchildren, Edward Franks of Canton, and Mrs. William R. Young of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., three grandchildren, Michele Franks, Mark Young and Vicki Eileen Young; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
