Cornelius Godsey, 78, retired carpenter and Baptist preacher, of Revelo, died Sunday, January 21, 1968 in the Oak Ridge, Tenn. hospital. He had been ill for several weeks. Rev. Godsey was born May 17, 1889 in Wayne County, and was a son of the late Shade and Matilda Abbott Godsey. He came to Stearns as a young man and was a faithful employee of Stearns Coal and Lumber until ill health forced his retirement. He was an ordained Baptist preacher and, before ill health forced his retirement, filled the pulpit in many of the Baptist churches throughout McCreary and adjoining counties. He was a member of the First Hickory Grove Church, Revelo, a devout Christian who lived his religion in his everyday life. He was a devoted husband and father. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Amanda Godsey, Revelo; sons, Cline, Henry and James all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Arnold of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; daughters Mrs. Clyde Jones, Mrs. Marshall Stearns and Mrs. Edgar Burke, all of Cincinnati; and Mrs. Robert Gibson, Revelo. One son, Clarence, was killed in World War II. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, at First Hickory Grove Church, Revelo, with Rev. Roy Blevins and Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Burial was in Stearns Cemetery. Hickman Funeral Home in charge. Serving as active pall bearers were Bethel West, William Shelly, Bernard Kidd, Theodore Childers, Dean King and Lloyd King./ Honorary pall bearers were Ben King, Albert Martin, Melvin Bowman, Castello Slaven, Everett king, Luther Trammell and Clarence Cooper.
