Edmond Goode was born in 1807 and was married soon after attaining his majority; he soon after bought lands, on which there was very little improvement, on the waters of Casey Creek, near Rolla, in Adair County. Here he improved a farm, to which he afterward built - upon which he remained many years. Later he sold this place and again bought wild lands some two miles further west in the same county, and afterward improved the farm upon which he resided until his death in 1855. Both he and wife were from early life members of the United Baptist Church, in which church he was for many years a ruling elder. His father, Fleming Goode, was a native of Virginia. When a small boy, about the time of the Revolutionary war, he came with his parents to Kentucky, the family first locating in what is now Boyle County. There he grew to manhood, soon becoming an extensive and expert hunter and trapper, killing large numbers of deer, bear and other wild game. He was married in Casey County and finally settled in what is now Adair County. He had a son who served in the war of 1812 under Gen. Jackson, and also in the Florida war. His father, John Goode, was born in the south of Ireland, but when a young man immigrated to the colony of Virginia. Mrs. Louisa (Caskey) Goode was born in 1807 and died in 1850. Her father, Robert A. Caskey, was born either in Virginia or in what is now Adair County, Ky. He was married in Adair County and engaged in agricultural pursuits all his life. He was for many years a constable, a magistrate and was sheriff under the old constitution. Franklin Goode is a man of wide and varied general information, having been an extensive, close and careful reader all his life. He remained with his parents on the home farm until he attained his majority, after which he farmed on rented lands and was employed as a laborer for some six years. He then bought a farm, on which there was a very slight improvement, on the waters of Casey Creek, in Adair County, where he remained only two years. In the spring of 1861 he bought a partially improved farm of 150 acres, on the northwest or McCluer's Fork of Casey Creek, some two and one-half miles north of Rolla, upon which he yet resides. He continued to add to his real possessions from time to time, now owning well improved farms aggregating some 600 acres. He is extensively and successfully engaged in farming and stock raising, and has given some attention to the breeding of fine cattle. He was married November 9, 1854, to Miss Elgeline E. Christeson, a native of Casey County, Ky., born August 22, 1835. She is a daughter of Thomas and Susan (Stephens) Christeson, natives of Boyle and Casey Counties, Ky., respectively, and of English descent. Two sons have blessed their union, viz.: Deroy and Emmit E. Both Mr. Goode and wife have been from early life members of the Christian Church. In politics he is a Democrat, and although he has never been an office-seeker, he is universally recognized as a party leader in this part of the county.
