His father, Peyton R. Graham, was born near Harrod's Landing Run, Mercer County, where he was reared; was a farmer and slave-holder, and died in 1823, at the age of thirty-five years. He was the son of Samuel M. Graham, a native of Culpeper County, Va., and a pioneer near Lexington, Ky., where he lost his lands by an adverse claim; after which he purchased land of Maj. Hugh McGary, on Kentucky River, in Mercer County, where he was a farmer and slave owner, and died previous to 1800. His offspring were James; Jane (Shaw); Polly (Hamilton) and Peyton R. Peyton R. married Ann, daughter of Charles Spillman, of Garrard County (born November 23, 1783, died July 17, 1863), and from their union sprang James S.; Elizabeth Armstrong; Sarah (Williamson); Charles P. and Mary (Crooks). Charles P. first married, 12840, Miss Elizabeth, daughter of Jonathan Nichols (born in Park County, Ind., in 1820; died March 8, 1876), and to them were born Belle (McEwen); Anna E. (Risk); John J.; Mary (Robinson); Minnie (McAfee); Charles S.; George W. (deceased); Loutie; Bess and William S. February 14, 1878, Mr. Graham married Miss Sallie, daughter of James and Permelia (Shepherd) Burnett, of Shelby County (born January 23, 1`840), and their children are: Alice (deceased) and Burnett. Mr. Graham is a farmer and stock raiser, having 276 acres of productive land well improved in McAfee Precinct, in his native county of Mercer. He is a Presbyterian and an Ancient Odd Fellow, and in politics is Republican.
