GEORGE M. GREEN, a prosperous young farmer of Madison Township, Dubois Co.,
Ind., was born August 22, 1864 and is the son of William H. and Rhoda
(Shoemaker) Green.  William H. is a native of Kentucky, and is of Irish
descent, born 1821.  He came to Indiana with his parents when an infant, and
made his home with his mother as long as he remained unmarried.  August 15,
1850, he married Martha Damans, born June 20, 1835.  To them were born four
children:  Mary E., Sarah E., Amelia and Minerva, all of whom are dead except
Minerva.  His wife dying in 1861, he took for his second wife, the mother of
our subject.  To them were born three chidlren:  George, Isabelle and
Florilla.  He was well to do, owning as high as 580 acres of good land, all of
which he accumulated by his own efforts.  In politics he was a Democrat, being
one of the leading men of his party.  He was county commissioner of the Third
District for fifteen consecutive years, and was then elected twonship trustee
for one term.  At the expiration of trusteeship he was again elected county
commissioner for three years, thus forcibly illustrating his popularity among
the people as an upright and honest man. His death occurred January 14, 1884.
Since his death his widow remains on the farm with her children.  Our subject
works on the farm at home, and is a straghtforward young business man.
