From: KyArchives [Archives@genrecords.org] Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2006 1:54 PM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Grigsby.Nathaniel.1797.Nelson.WILL Nathaniel Grigsby May 13, 1797 Nelson County KyArchives Will Source: Nelson Co., Will Book A, Pp 567-570 Written: May 13, 1797 Recorded: September 14, 1801 In the name of God amen I Nathaniel Grigsby of Nelson County in the State of Kentucky being in perfect health have thought proper to make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following and first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my Body to be buried in a Christian like manner and as for my worldly estate I leave as follows –Item I give to my son Nathaniel Grigsby two negroes viz. Ailse and young Moses to him and his heirs forever --- Item I give to son William Grigsby one negro named Isaac and another named Ailise (provided he the said William exhonerates my Estate from a debt formerly oweing to Jacob Raimey and which he has paid) to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to son John Grigsby one cow and calf one feather bed and furniture, six sheep one iron pot one desk & six pewter plates to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to my son Joseph Grigsby the Balance of the tract of land whereon I now live (not otherwise given) three negroes (viz) Anny, Kate and James, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, six sheep one dish and six pewter plates to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter Susanna Raimey one negro girl formerly mentioned in a deed of gift names Patience to her and her heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Mason two negroes viz. Pris and Eli to her and her heirs forever. Item I give to son James Grigsbys heirs five pounds. Item I give to Samuel Eskridge’s son ______ Eskridge forty shillings. I leave in the hands of my wife Susanna and two sons Mark and Enoch Grigsby and Lindon Smith son to my wife one hundred and fifty acres of land part of the tract whereon I now live to exclude the houses and plantation together with six negroes viz. Moses, Mary, Pall, Jane, Ann and John and two servants viz. Roger Gohahan and Charlotte Reeves with all the rest and residue of my Estate unmentioned for the support and maintainance of my wife and sons Mark Enoch and Lindon who is disabled during the term of there natural lives or my said wifes widowhood and after their deaths the lands above mentionedto be vested in my son Joseph to him and his heirs forever and the other part of the Estate ___ negroes --- to be equally divided between sons Nathaniel, William John, Joseph and daughters Susanna and Elizabeth and their heirs forever. I leave in the hands of my executors two certificates of moned lodged in the Loan office of Virginia in order to discharge debts due British subjects and if they should not be sufficient each of the legatees are to pay in proportion to what is given them. Above ______ to discharge the aforesaid debts. Lastly I constitute and appoint my wife Susanna executrix and son Nathaniel Grigsby and son Joseph Grigsby executors of this my last will and Testament.
