He was born in Pineville on December 23, 1918 the son of the late Lawrence and Emma Lewis Grubbs. He had been a coal miner for 50 years retiring from Grays Knob Coal Company in Harlan County after 39 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He enjoyed bee keeping, gardening and flowers and was a joy to all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Opal Lee Walters Grubbs whom he married April 16, 1937, and children, Mary Francis, Jenny, Brenda, Carl, Ronald and Donald and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Raymond and Pauletta Grubbs of Frankfort, IN, Clifford Wayne Grubbs of Harlan, Doris Hensel of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Wanda and Ralph Johnson of Pineville; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, leaving cherished memories with 3 granddaughters Kathy and Bill Grubbs and Billie Jo Grubbs of Flat Rock, NC and Linda and Marlon Thomas of Corbin, KY. The family would like to give a special thank you to Four Seasons Hospice and especially Leslie Stephenson. Services were Wednesday, August 11 at 2:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Grubbs. Music by Lucy Smith. Burial followed in Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were family and friends. The family received friends from 6 until 9 PM Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.
