He age 72. Stated he entered the service as a regular soldier in June or July of 1777 under Capt Samuel GILKERSON in Frederick Co VA and was discharged in spring of 1779. He went to Rockingham Co VA to live with his mother and step-father, David MAUNGER. While there in 1780 was drafted as a militia man for 3 months serving under Capt John RUSH. In 1781 was drafted again, served under Capt. John ROGAN for 3 mos. Was in no battles; after the war he moved to Russell Co VA and then to KY. He was born in Winchester VA 8 June 1760. Mary BERRY swore on oath that in Rockingham Co shelived about 3 or more miles from David Maunger's, the step-father and well remembers the marching of Capt Rogan (Rogen) with his company for Richmond VA and that HAINES was a soldier in that company. Haines was married to her sister in Rockingham a short time before he was said to have been drafted in 1781. Jesse L HICKMAN and Zadock B THACKSTON, Clergymen, testify of his age and character. George HAINES of Washington Co TN swore on oath on 29 Sept 1832 that in 1777 he knew Christopher Haines and that he enlisted for 2 years. He saw him depart with the troops from Winchester; and he himself was in the Southern Cavalry and Christopher was in the infantry in the north. In Allen Co on 7 June 1846, Tallitha HAINS, age 87 deposed that she was the widow of Christopher Haines and that they had been married by Rev Anderson MURPHY after the publication of banns. William H ASHFORD and Samuel HAINES swore that Christopher and his wife had a Bible record which they have examined and that it was in the writing of Christopher (shown below). On the same date Harden CELCER, age 60, swore that he knew Christopher and Tallitha from his earliest infant recollection and that he was a very small boy when he was at their house - that they were living together as man and wife. That he, Celcer, moved to KY in 1808 and Christopher and his wife in 1810. Ephraim BERRY of Allen Co, apparently the same date, age 60, stated that he was born within one mile of Christopher and Tallitha in VA and that he has known them as man and wife for nearly 60 year. Sary, born 12 June 1791 Betty, born 1 Aug 1793 Christopher, born 4 July 179- torn Tallitha, born 8 Nov 1797 Martha, born 13 Mar 1800 Samuel Hains born 2 Apr 1802 John Hains, born 8 (or 5) Mar 18__ torn Chrissy, born 7 AUg 180_ torn Tallitha Haines Inscribed on the Ky Roll at $80 per year to begin 9 Sept 1846. Certificate of Pension issued 9 Oct 1848. Christopher Haines died 9 Sept 1846.
