Submitted by Mary Hudson Middlesboro Daily News, Middlesboro, KY Feb. 9, 1921 "Dry" Officer Tried On Murder Charge For the Third Time Manassas, VA., Feb. 9 -- For the third time within two years, Walter C. Hall, former state prohibition officer, went on trial yesterday charged with killing Laurence Hudson and Raymond Shackleford, during a battle to arrest them for alleged violation of the prohibition laws. Twice before the state has prosecuted Hall and at the same time paid the expenses of his defense. On each occasion the jury disagreed. This time the State refused to bear the expense of the defense, but Hall is defended by former State Senator Louis Wondenburg, of Richmond, Walton and Walton, of Woodstock, Va., and Didlake and Metz of Manassas. Commonwealths Attorney Shenandoah, who prosecuted unsuccessfully at the two previous trials, is reported to have withdrawn from the case and the prosecution is being conducted by Judge Tavenner. A regular venire of 46 men was exhausted speedily and but eleven jurors were chose. A special venire of 25 has been called for. ______________________________
