Hardin 1848 - Breckinridge-Meade County KyArchives Biography Author: Kentucky Genealogy and Biography Volume I, Battle-Perrin-Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. DR. JOHN M. HARDIN is a representative of one of the prominent families of Kentucky, and was born in Breckinridge County in 1848. He is a son of Elijah and Mary Jane (Massey) Hardin, and a great-grandson of Gen. William Hardin, who, in 1782, built a fort or station on the site of Hardinsburg, the county seat of Breckinridge, and whose name is perpetuated in that of the town (see history of Breckinridge County). Elijah Hardin, father of the subject of this sketch, was born in Breckinridge County in 1805, and was a son of Henry Hardin, a prominent and life-long citizen of that county. He married Miss Massey, a native of Meade county, who is still living on the old homestead; he died in 1877. They had a family of seven children, viz.: William H., John M., Paul B., Ida, Elijah S., Elizabeth and Asia - all living. Dr. Hardin received his education in the schools of his native county, and remained on the farm until he was twenty-one years of age. He then studied dental surgery, and soon after completing his profession went to Morganfield, Union County, where he remained four years. In 1877 he located in Brandenburg, and has since practiced his profession in the town and county; he is also engaged in agriculture, and owns a farm of 160 acres a short distance from Brandenburg. He married, in 1880, Miss Anna Elizabeth Farleigh, of this county, a daughter of Clinton C. and Fannie Farleigh. They have two children: Mabel Allen and Claude Farleigh Hardin.
