Stephen Harding was a substantial farmer and slave owner, and a son of John C. And Susan (Fisher) Harding, of English descent, who came from Virginia in the early settlement of Kentucky, were substantial slave owners and died at an advanced age. David Harding was born in Marion County, as were his parents, and was reared on a farm. He received a liberal common education, and at twenty-one commenced active life for himself. He was married in February 1871, to Mary E., a daughter of Wayne and America (Dodson) Ferguson, both of Harding [sic] County. Wayne Ferguson was a farmer and hotel- keeper in Bradsforville, Marion, to which county he moved about 1857. He served as captain in the Sixth Kentucky Federal Regiment, and lives in Lebanon, to which place he moved in 1870. Mr. and Mrs. Harding have had born to them two children: Candacy L. And Benjamin David. After his marriage Mr. Harding located where he now resides on 300 acres formerly his father's. The farm is well improved, and in a good state of cultivation, containing considerable Rolling Fork bottom. He also owns several tracts of timber land. Mr. Harding in politics is a Democrat, and he and wife are members of the Baptist Church.
