Sent: Monday, October 13, 2003 7:44 PM >From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 12 Dec 02 STANFORD -- Services for Ray Hargis, 80, of Stanford will be 11 a.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Dale Denton. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion. He died Wednesday at his home. Born Jan. 28, 1922, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late William C. and Lina Ellen Barnes Hargis. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. He was a former member and deacon of Drakes Creek Baptist Church. He also was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific theater. Survivors include his wife, Vera Hargis; three daughters, Brenda R. Scogham of Louisville, Wanda K. Elkins of Stanford and Regina S. Hooper of Berea; a sister, Bertie Hargis of Ohio; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bobby Weaver, Steve Patterson, Robert Elkins and Ed Hardin. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.
