"Mr. Hiram Harlan, formerly of Monroe county, died of dropsy of the heart at his home in Florida, Wednesday, the 30th ult. Dr. E. R. Thompson, his nephews, received a telegram announcing the critical condition of Mr. Harlan several weeks ago, and at once started on the journey to his bedside where he rendered all the aid in his power, but the case was hopeless from the beginning. "Dr. Thompson had the remains embalmed and arrived home with them on last Saturday evening, and at 2 o'clock p.m. Sunday they were consigned to their last resting place in the old Mt. Zion cemetery. Rev J.R. Leslie conducted the funeral service in a very appropriate manner." Glasgow (KY) Times, 1898. ______________________________
