ANNA PERKINS HARRIS Anna Perkins Harris, 90, Morganfield, died Sunday at 7:45pm at Coble Health Care Center in Durham, NC. She became involved in college administration at Vanderbilt University and later at the universities of Michigan and Pennsylvania. She was appointed Dean of Women at the University of Vermont and was honored by a residence hall named after her. Miss Harris concluded her formal career as executive director of the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors in Washington, DC, retiring in 1972. She received an Honorary Doctor of Law degree from William Woods College in Missouri. Miss Harris moved to Durham in 1988. She was born and raised in Morganfield, and was the daughter of the late Anna Mae Cannon Harris and William Truman Harris. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Truman Harris Jr., and a sister, Sara Dorsey Harris Brown. There are no local survivors. Surviving are neices Sara H. Craven and Patricia Wolfe of Charlotte; a sister in law, Ursula R. Harris of Charlotte; and grand nephews James, Joseph and William Craven, all of Durham. Miss Harris was a resident of the Methodist Retirement Home at the time of her death. A memorial service was held January 28 at the Coble Health Care Center in Durham. Memorial gifts may be made to the Family Council of the Methodist Retirement Home, 2616 Erwin Road, Durham, North Carolina, 27705. Graveside services were at 3pm Saturday at Odd Fellow Cemetery.
