Harris, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Danville, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital. Born March 16, 1914, in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Sweeney and Ethel Brown. She was a retired Kentucky School for the Deaf teacher. She was a member of St. James AME Church in Danville for 70 years and held various offices including trustee, superintendent and Sunday School teacher. She also was a member and treasurer of the church choir, a member of the missionary board, secretary/treasurer of the Benevolent Society and secretary of Willing Workers Club. She was a delegate to the AME conference many times. She also was a member of the Busy Sunshine Club, Order of the Eastern Star, White Rose Club and the Domestic Economy Club. She was the widow of Herbert L. Harris. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. James AME Church. Burial will be in Hilldale Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the church. Smith & Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
