OBIT: Matilda Hereford, 1914, Russell Co. Submitted by: Theresa Griffiths: Copy of Obituary from Deepwater, MO. Henry County's Oldest Woman Mrs. Matilda Hereford, who was the oldest woman in Henry County, perhaps in MO, died at the home of her son W. F. Hereford in Deepwater, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, after only a two weeks illness with paralysis. She was tenderly cared for by relatives and friends, and no better people live than those at Deepwater. To live to such an age is remarkable. The funeral was held at the Christian Church by the paster, Rev. Dunkleberger, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. It was the largest funeral ever held in Deepwater with the exception of Mr. Dickey several years ago. The remains were laid in the dunning cemetery. Mrs. Matilda Hereford was born August 2, 1815, in Russell Co., KY. Her father's name was John Blankenship. At the age of 16, she married Robert B. Hereford, who died 32 years ago. 11 children were given to this union -- five sons and one daughter of whom are living. They are: Jacob Hereford, Mootrose; Joe Hereford, Urich; Jim Hereford, Kansas City; W. F. Hereford, and Miss Mary Jane, of Deepwater and Marshall, south of Clinton, six miles. There are 31 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. NOTE: She died July 20, 1914 in Henry County, Missouri ______________________________
