This Indenture made this 15th day of October 1823 between Sarah Hicks of Mercer 
County and State of Kentucky of the one part and Jesse McGinnis of the Same 
County and State of the other part (Witnesseth) that the said Sarah Hicks for 
and in consideration, of the sum of one thousand dollars to her in hand paid by 
the sd. Jesse McGinnis the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath sold and 
doth hereby sell deliver and convey unto the said Jesse McGinnis her life 
estate in the tract of land on which she lately lived which was devised to her 
by her dec'd Husband and being the one half of the tract on which her sd. 
Husband lived and died adjoining Gates Rugless[?] and Bice on Harrods run in 
the afsd. County of Mercer also the following Slaves during her life to wit 
Nelson Nathan Ch??? Sukey Charles and which are all [something crossed out] in 
her possession and belong to her during her life also all the Horses Hogs Sheep 
and cattle beloning to her and all her Household and Kitchen furniture and 
farming utensials of every description whatever and the crop now on the afsd. 
tract of land.  To have and to hold the afsd. life estate in the sd. land and 
Slaves and the absolute property in the other articles hereby conveyed to 
himself sd. Jesse McGinnis and his heirs free from the claim of all persons 
whatsoever.  In testimony whereof the sd. Sarah Hicks hath hereunto Set her 
hand and affixed her Seal the date afsd.

This Indenture was this day before me in my office proved to be the act and 
deed of Sarah Hicks a party thereto to be by the oaths of Benjamin Durham and 
James H. McGinnis two Subscribing witnesses thereto whereupon I have made the 
Same of Record.
