HIGGASON, M.D., was born May 5, 1835, in Green County, Ky. He was the ninth of ten sons and two daughters - nine of whom lived to be grown - born to Supry and Lucy (Sandidge) Higgason, who were born in Fairfax and Albemarle Counties, Va., respectively. Supry Higgason migrated with his parents as early as 1805, and settled in Green County, Ky. He was a substantial farmer and slave holder and died in 1856, aged sixty-six years. He was a son of Samual Higgason, of Virginia, who married Nancy White, and came to Kentucky, where he engaged in farming, and served as magistrate of Green County for several terms. Mrs. Lucy Higgason was born in January, 1800, a daughter of Thomas Sandidge, who married a Miss Wood. They came from Virginia to Green County as early as 1805. Thomas Sandidge served as justice for several terms, and represented the county in the Legislature several sessions. He was a soldier of the Revolution, was an extensive farmer and owner of a large slave property, and died at the age of eighty years. M. D. Higgason was reared on a farm, and received the rudiments of a good English education, after which he entered an academy ford a time. At the age of eighteen years he commenced teaching, which he continued for years, when he rode as deputy sheriff for two years. He commenced the study of medicine while teaching, and in 1861 graduated from the University of Louisville, and located at La Fayette, Metcalfe County. During the war he moved, and located at Powder Mills, Hart County, where he practiced his profession. In February, 1881, he located at Upton, La Rue County, where he has met with excellent success in his profession. He was married, in October, 1863, to Eliza Wyatt, of Hart County, a daughter of Isaac and Mary (Burks) Wyatt, who came from Virginia at an early day. Isaac Wyatt was one of the leading and extensive farmers and slave owners of Hart County. The Doctor has had eight children born to him by this union, two now living, Lucy E. (married to E. Drain) and Mary M. The Doctor and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and he is a member of the Masonic fraternity and I. O. O. F. In politics he is now a Democrat but cast his first presidential vote for Fillmore.
