Ky. He is the son of Samuel Jarboe and Elizabeth “Lewis” Jarboe, both of West Virginia. He was baptized into the Catholic religion on March 29th, 1840 at St. Lawrence in Knottsville, Daviess Co. Ky. He is a civil war veteran enlisting into Co. B, 27th Ky Volunteer Infantry on Oct 20th, 1861. He was honorably discharged March 29th, 1865. Attaining the rank of corporal. While participating in the siege of Atlanta he was wounded and entitled to a pension in later years. In a deposition by William Miller, he states that when Walter was 29 years old he was 5 feet 9 ˝ inches tall, dark Completion, Black hair and Blue eyes. Walter married Harriet Beavin on Oct. 24th, 1866, having 1 child. Emily Gertrude. Harriet never recovered from childbirth and died 5 months later. Walter then married Prudence Ann Bland on Feb. 6th, 1871. To this union was born 6 children. Samuel, John, Mary, Charles & Sarah (twins) and William. Prudence died on June 14th, 1906 and is buried at St. Rose Cemetery in Cloverport. Jan. 12th, 1910 and almost 70 years old, he married a 3rd time to Rosa Triplett. Walter was getting $25 a month pension. Rosa states in a deposition that “her husband Walter Jarboe 6 months ago deserted me without cause” Rosa was trying to get ˝ of his pension. She was a resident of La Porte, Harris Co. Texas at that time. It is guessed that Walters daughter Mary McClelland had Walter placed in the Old Soldiers and Sailor’s home in Danville, Illinois and in hiding from his wife. Where he died May 20th, 1920. He is buried at the National Cemetery in Danville #137 Sec.10 Row 7. Some notes on Walter 1: He was a farmer according to the federal census. 2: Walter was born on Feb. 22nd, he had twins born on Feb 22nd and a grandson died on Feb 22nd. 3: His Military Pension file has copies of Marriage bonds, several depositions, and one giving his physical description. 4. The tombstone at St. Rose in Cloverport of his 2nd wife Prudence also has Walters name on it with no death date.
