Johnson, 90, passed away in his sleep at home Thursday, July 11, 2002. He was born July 24, 1911 in Whitewood, Va., the son of the late Richard and Eula Hale Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Myrtle Johnson; sisters, Vivian Chapman, Hazel Crockett, Nanny Stacey; brothers, Raymond, Richard, Jr., Andrew, and William Johnson. Arthur was employed as a railroad engineer by Griffin Lumber Co., Shop Foreman by Ritter Lumber Co., and Millwright by Georgia Pacific. He was a master of many skills he also worked repairing large and small machinery, saw-filling and carpentry. When asked which job he liked best he always answered running the train. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Pearly Lockhart Johnson, Stoney Fork; daughter, Sandra Johnson, Stoney Fork; sons, Ronald E. (Betty) Johnson, Powell, Tenn., Thomas W. (Linda) Johnson, Lafayette, Ind.; brothers, Joe (Eva) Johnson, Cedar Bluff, Va., Jack (Pauline) Johnson, Hurley, Va.; grandchildren, Judy Johnson Smith and husband Terry of Heiskell, Tenn., Christopher F. Johnson and wife Paulette of Jupiter, Fla.; great grandchildren, Andrea, Ben, and Caleb Smith, Chris, Jonathon, Riley Johnson and Kayla Lane; several nieces and nephews, good friends, Harve Couch and the loving congregation of Stoney Fork Baptist Church. Services will be at 6 p.m. today at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Norman officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today at Creech Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
