Jones December 23, 2001 Bath County KyArchives Obituaries Bath Co. News-Outlook, Jan. 10, 2002, P1,6 Retired mail carrier, community leader, Frank T. Jones expires. One of Bath County's most dedicated community servants, and fondest friends, passed away on Sunday, December 23, at the age of 89. Frank Thomas Jones, of Wyoming Road, died at the Mary Chiles Hospital in Mt. Sterling. He was the husband of Beulah Colliver Jones, a retired rural mail carrier, farmer and landowner. Jones was very well known throughout Bath County and was especially active in community organizations and took great pride in working with youth-oriented 4-H and agriculture-related programs and projects, particularly within the Bath County Extension Service and the Bath County Farm Bureau. He was once referred to as "one of the strongest Extension boosters in the state of Kentucky" and was said to have led, supported, and assisted the Extension Service in putting out demonstrations and field trials in the early 1950's, when others were still questioning UK recommendations. Jones was passionate throughout most of his life about 4-H and proved it by serving as a leader, spent nearly a decade as a volunteer leader at 4-H camp, and served on the 4-H council in a directive capacity. He helped charter the Bath County Farm Bureau, and was secretary of the organization for 25 years. Former Bath County Agriculture Agent John K. Wills once submitted a nomination of Jones for the "Outstanding Leader Award" to the Kentucky Association of County Agriculture Agents. Jones won the award and was also made an "Honorary Ag Agent." "Frank T. was a jewel of a person and so very easy to work with," said Wills in a recent phone conversation. Wills said he was always very patient and interested in educating our youth. Jones was a member of the Owingsville Christian Church, where he was an elder emeritus, and a World War II Air Force veteran and the son of the late Mary B. Jones and Albert B. Jones. Other memberships included the Bath County Farm Bureau, the Bath County Sportsman's Club, and the Bath County 4-H Leadership Council. Survivors beside his wife include one daughter, Kaye Jones Ratliff and her husband Mike of Owingsville; two granddaughters, Amy and Holly.
