She was the daughter of Elijah B. and Mary Catherine Dickens. In early youth, she married Silas S. Gibbs, who preceded her in death in 1922. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive. Then she was married to Thomas M. Kirby who died in 1943. Near relatives who survive are: One son, Sylvester Gibbs of Evansville, Indiana; Five daughters: Mrs. Virgil Numm, and Mrs. Jake Eatmond of Glasgow, Ky. Mrs. Evie Plumlee of Columbus, Indiana; Mrs. Barton Wilson and Mrs. S. T. Dotson of Layfayette, Tenn. Two Step-Daughters also survive: Mrs. R. D. Lyons of Bowling Green, Ky. and Mrs. Bill McDonald of Clinton, Ill. Twenty two grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren also survive. One daughter, Mrs. Buelah Russell of Akron, Ohio died in May, 1943/ At the age of 15 yrs., she united with the Elmwood Methodist Church of Smith County, Tenn., on profession of Faith. She was a firm believer in the reality of heartfelt religion. For many years she attended church at the Enon Baptist Church and often spoke of the love she had for the Church at Enon and the many blessings she received from being in the Worship services at that place. Aunt Ida was known by her many friends as a good woman, who did her best not to judge people harshly nor speak unkindly of her neighbor, but thought well of everyone. Her greatest desire for her children was that they might have a home with her in heaven. In the past few years, her thoughts were more of her home with her Heavenly Father than of things of earth for she often spoke of her desire to pass through the veil of death into the life beyond. If she could speak today, we are sure her words would be: "Children, when you are tired of earthly life, please come to my Heavenly Home; I'll be waiting at the gate for you." It is was typed using an old typewriter and on stationary paper. My older sister would be one of the great grandchildren. I wasn't born until 1953, my parents are John Henry and Dorothy Virginia (Gibbs) Hammack, and my grandparents are Sylvester and Flossie (Slinker) Gibbs.
