        Mrs. Bessie Gertrude (DeArmond) Kirkwood, 89, of 618 S. Kentucky 
Ave. died 7:45 a.m. Saturday at Clinic Convalescent Center.
        Born in Hopkins Co., Sept. 27,1894 she was the daughter of the 
late Sam DeArmond and Lucy Reno, and a member of the Madison Avenue 
Holiness Church.
        She was preceded in death by her husband, Acre Allen Kirkwood, 
in 1947. Survivors include one son, Racel Kirkwood, Madisonville; three 
daughters, Mrs. Juanita Goodwin and Mrs. Gertrude Odlesby, both of 
Madisonville, and Mrs. Hortense Wilmouth, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, 
Mrs. Kathryn Gregory, Red Land, Calf.; 11 grandchildren, 
25 great-grandchildren, and four g.g. grandchildren.
        Services will be held 3:30 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Chapel, 
with Rev. Wilford Jones and Rev. Marvin Campbell officiating. Burial 
will be in Oddfellows Cemetery.
