Perrin - History of Kentucky JAMES N. LARUE was born July 26, 1842, in Franklin, KY. He is the second of four boys and five girls born to Dr. John J. and Lucy E. (Nall) LaRue, natives respectively of LaRue and Nelson Counties, KY. Dr. John J. was a son of James LaRue, who was born in Virginia, was a merchant, and married Phoebe Larue, a daughter of John LaRue, who came from Virginia to Hardin County (now LaRue)KY., in an early day. La Rue County was named in his honor; he was a farmer and of French descent. The mother of James N. LaRue was a daughter of James Nall, who married Miss Chenault. James N. LaRue was reared in Franklin and received a common education. At the age of twenty he entered a store as salesman, in which capacity he continued for ten or twelve years; he then commenced business for himself. He married, in January, 1870, Mary C. Finn, of Franklin, a daughter of John A. and Marie (DuVal) Finn, natives of Robertson County, Tenn. John A. Finn was a man highly educated; a prominent member of the Franklin bar, a good lawyer, and one of the most popular men in the county during his active days. He came to Kentucky when but a boy and represented Simpson County in the Legislature. He is a son of John Finn, who was born in Ireland. To Mr.and Mrs. LaRue were born five children: William D., Mary L., James N., Lucy E. and John. Mrs. Larue is a membwer of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1870 Mr. LaRue was appointed city marshal of Franklin; two years later engaged in the dry goods business, in which he is still engaged. In 1875-76 he was mayor of Franklin; in 1880 he was elected justice and resigned the office in February, 1882. In the same year he was made cashier of McElvain & Meguiar's bank, which place he still holds. He is a member of the K. of H. and is one of the leading and best business men in Franklin. He cast his first presidential vote for McClellan in 1864.
