Around 1859 Ransom met and married Louisa Taylor I have not found the date yet nor the divorce, but in Ransoms pension it mentions the divorce. I believe one child was born to them Sarah Lawson,b. 12 Jun 1861,this taken from Harlan Co.births. Ransom at the age of 21 joined the Union Army,20 Jul 1863 in Harlan Co.Ky. he was sent to Camp Nelson and was part of the 49th.Kentucky Infantry and was in Company-E,Camp Nelson was located in Jessamine County Kentucky. Ransom Lawson moved his family to Bell Co.from Harlan Co.,between 1870/1880,in the 1880 census he is in Bell Co. On 09 Mar 1924 Ransom died in Bell Co.Ky. Ransom Lawson was a farmer all his life and probablly came over to Bell Co. for more farmland,he settled around Red Bird which is now called Beverly Ky. Other family members also came to this area Samuel Lawson,half-brother of Ransom also done his term with the Union Army and settled close to Ransom, and yet another half-brother Gilbert Lawson also settled in the area. John Saylor Jr. whom Manerva Mother of Ransom married was the son of Martin Saylor/who was the son of Solomon Saylor/who was the son of Joseph Saylor... John Saylor Jr. was born in 1816,Harlan Co./d.1865 in Harlan Co. Ransom & Charity farmed the land on Red Bird as I said she died in 1892,and Ransom married Sarah but all I've heard of her are good things. After the death of Ransom my grandmother who was married to Lewis would buy material and make her clothes,as well as the other children and she seemed loved by all. Ransom had contracted the measles while in the Army, they did'nt have much medicine to treat the sick he had also got an injury during his term and in some ways contributed to his death. His death certificate states he had eating cancer from what I've heard it was an injury he recieved to one of his cheeks, and then later on developed the cancer. When he had arrived at Camp Nelson they were cutting timbers and I would assume building fortifications around the camp, while moving these timbers he recieved an injury also.,I have found Ransom from the 1850 census all the way to the 1920 census. In those early years there were no roads to speak of in the area Willie and Manerva, died young I believe the same year 1888,but I don't know as of yet what happened? The last child of Charity and Ransom was Marinda who married Hugh Meridith & after he was killed she married Harlin Shivly, they had one son Harlin Jr. Marinda passed away 20 Apr 1973 at the Pineville Community Hospital, she was buried at the Lawson cemetery on Mud Lick. My grandfather Lewis married the sis- ter of Hugh her name was Martha Meredith. I have seen Meredith spelled at least three differant ways,so I hope everyone who reads this won't get too upset.. I have given a brief outline of Ransom and some of his family, and have given a discription as best I can. But again I say "brief". Submitted by: Floyd Vaughn and Floyd Vaughn %demail floydvaughn@netscape.com Additional Comments: I have written a brief detail of my Great-grandfather Ransom Lawson,as far as I know the first on my Mother's side to come and settle in Bell County Kentucky. A lot of cemetery's I have visited in the area have unmarked stones, and this is troubling to me because learning from our past we can shape our future. This area of Kentucky is beautiful and ever changing and I would hope that a lot of people care about its past and try to preserve it,this land in the 1800's was a very violent land and it took strong people to forge it into what it is today. And with this I say; HAPPY HUNTING,,,, Floyd.... This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/kyfiles/
