Layle.N.B.1847.Grant.BIOS Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Grant Co. N. B. LAYLE was born in Grant County, Ky., October 25, 1847, and is the twelfth child of a family of thirteen children born to John and Margaret (McCullick) Layle. John Layle was born in Fayette County, Ky., in 1800. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits all of his life, and died in 1870. He was a son of Peter Layle, who served in the war of 1812. Mrs. Margaret Layle was also a native of Grant County, Ky. N. B. Layle, with the exception of two years, 1867 and 1868, which were spent in Missouri, farming, has always lived in his native county. He was educated at the schools in his neighborhood, and was engaged in farming for several years. He was in the marble business at Williamstown for four years, and was very successful. May 11, 1871, he married Nannie Carnes, of Grant County, Ky. Two children have blessed this union, Mollie and Gracie, who are noted for their beauty and many fine qualities. Mrs. Nannie Layle is a daughter of John and Sarah (Skirvins) Carnes. She and her daughter, Mollie, are strict members of the Baptist Church, and of the Good Templars lodge located at Williamstown.
