The family moved to Mansfield in 1945 and Chuck attended Mansfield City Schools, including Newman St., Carpenter, Johnny Appleseed, graduating in 1958 from Mansfield Senior High. During these years, friends and family called him Bill, but after returning from serving in the U.S. Army, he was accustomed to being called Chuck, from then on referring himself in the same manner. He was a salesman for J.C. Penney Co. in the Automotive Dept. and managed Lexington Auto Parts. In 1989, he joined his wife, Rosemary, in their business, the Maxine Shop, retiring and closing the business in 2000. He was an active member of Diamond Hills Baptist Church, serving his Lord as deacon, trustee, Sunday school Superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. Chuck made many calls to people in the hospital, nursing homes and their own homes. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He was a prayer partner for Richland Pregnancy Services and helped with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Chuck never lost his faith or sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary I. (Draper) Lewis; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Joe Berger of Wadsworth; nephew, Jay Berger, his wife, Vicki and their children, Joe and Mitch of Mansfield; nephew, Chuck Berger-named in honor of his uncle-his wife, Ronda, and their children, Zach, Brooke and Sarah, all of Wadsworth; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Lowe of Stuart, FL and Marilyn “Betty” (Richard) Masheter of Thurston, OH; niece-in-law, Pam Jester of Lafayette, LA; and several great-nieces and nephews. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Diamond Hills Baptist Church with his good friend and special pastor, Rev. Christopher Thomas, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to Diamond Hills Baptist Church Memorial Fund, a charity of the donor’s choice, or buying someone you love candy or flowers. Chuck prayed for many of you daily and his prayer was that each one would accept Christ as their personal Savior so you may all see Chuck again in Heaven. As the Lord states in Matthew 25:21, “Well done thou good and faithful servant."
