"In Glasgow, Ky., at the residence of her son, Gen. Jos. H. Lewis, Sunday morning, Oct. 6th, 1878, at quarter past eight o'clock, MRS. E. M. LEWIS. "Mrs. Lewis was born in Philadelphia, August 6th, 1801. Her maiden name was Eliza M. Reed. She was a model in all the departments woman is called on to fill. As a wife, kind, forbearing and affectionate; as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her great heart of love, in her quiet, lovely way, always glowed with affection. As a neighbor, she was obliging and generous; her great mind, trained to think, was stored with useful knowledge, and her books of science and literature were selected from a pure, high order of thinkers. She was [a] member of Glasgow Presbyterian church, but loved all servants of the Lord for his sake. And we can always remember with pleasure the christian character, whose beauty was unfolded in her home in a constant reading the Bible and her quiet, holy living. She was [a] woman of fine sense, excellent judgement and untiring energy. She was a christian who rested not in religious forms and ceremonies, but was humble, living and lived in holy communion with the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Ghost. She was remarkable for her cheerfulness and amiability during her last illness, and gradually fell asleep in resurrection. "They that sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."
