LINDSAY, farmer; P. O. North Middletown; son of Reuben Lindsay, who was born in Virginia, and emigrated to this State at an early day and married Nancy Wells; by this marriage there were three children: William H., who married Lucy Lockland in the year 1839; Greenberry, who died at the age of thirty-three; and Preston J., who is the subject of this sketch and was born July the 5th, 1817; when only three years of age he was left an orphan and was taken by his grandmother Wells, by whom he was reared and educated; he received a very liberal education in the old pioneer school houses of his neighborhood; his favorite study was mathematics, and in this valuable branch of education he had but few equals. After he arrived at the age of maturity and was thrown upon his own resources for a livelihood, he turned his attention to agricultural pursuits, and to the present time is a tiller of the soil and enjoying single blessedness. Mr. Lindsay has been prominently connected with the Masonic order since 1839. For three years he enjoyed the enviable position of High Priest of Washington Chapter, No. 26, and has been a Knight Templar and member of Lex. Commandery, No. 2, since 1870; he is also a straight Democrat in politics.
