He was the son of John D. MARTIN and Lucy Frances JOHNSON, (and grandson of George Valentine Martin II b. Jun. 1, 1846 d. Oct. 22, 1911, and Rachel Ann Keck, near to whom he is buried with whom he is buried.) David Reed Martin's syblings were: 1.Rachel Ellen MARTIN b: 27 SEP 1891 in Gray, Knox County, Kentucky 2.James Parker MARTIN b: JAN 1895 in Knox County, Kentucky 3.Charlie MARTIN b: 15 DEC 1898 in Knox County, Kentucky 4.Creed MARTIN b: 26 MAY 1901 in Knox County, Kentucky 5.Chester Arthur MARTIN b: 24 SEP 1903 in Knox County, Kentucky 6.Samuel "Sam" MARTIN b: 16 JUN 1906 in Knox County, Kentucky David Reed Martin married Nannie Serena WALTERS 24 DEC 1915 in Knox County, Kentucky, daughter of Parks B. WALTERS and Callie SEWELL. She was born 12 OCT 1898 in Pittsburg, Laurel County, Kentucky. With Nannie Walters as mother, David Reed Martin fathered Vernon Eugene Martin, b. September 1916 and Theodore Roosevelt Martin, b. November 1918. David Reed Martin served three years in the US Army prior to 1917 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. According to the Decemeber 24, 1915 ot Gray Kentucky, he had been living in Kettle "Kittle" Island, in Bell County and working as a coal miner there, but by June 5, 1917 David had relocated to his father's John D. Martin's home in Gray, Kentucky, with wife Nannie and son Vernon, and was working as a farmer for Clarence Donaldson.
