J.G. MASON DIED IN ILLINOIS Mrs. Joseph Gideon Mason of Mattoon, Illinois died at her home there at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, April 19 (1951) from cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held April 22 at Mattoon, and interment was in the cemetery there. Mrs. Mason, the former Miss Dicy Beatty, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Beatty of Askins, was born May 8, 1871. She was married to Mr. Mason December 28, 1898, and they made their home at Harrill, Indiana moving to Mattoon some years later. Two of their three children survive, Miss Marion Mason and Earl Mason, both in the home in Mattoon. The late Mr. Mason (he was killed in 1937 in a fall from a cherry tree), was the first cousin of Mr. Shelby Pate, and both Mr. and Mrs. Pate thought of their cousin more as a brother and sister. Mrs. Mason had many friends here as she visited Mrs. Pate and other relatives in the county almost every year. Mrs. Mason's sister-in-law, Mrs. William Mason of Hawesville, attended the funeral and is still there for awhile. A cousin Mr. Norman Chancellor of Cave Spring near McQuady, also attended the funeral, but Mrs. Pate was unable to go, on account of an attack of influenza as was also another sister-in-law of the Masons, Mrs. Albert Beatty of Fordsville.
