Pate of this city went to Mattoon, Illinois the latter part of last week on account of the death of Mr. Mason's brother, Joseph Gideon Mason. Death was due to a fall from a large cherry tree in which Mr. Mason was picking cherries. Mr. Mason was found lying face downward about 12:20 noon, Thursday under the tree where he had been picking the cherries. He had sustained a broken neck, and broken limbs through the tree indicated the path which his body took when he in some way fell, after a large limb had broken. It is believed he had been dead less than an hour when neighbors found the lifeless body under the tree. Mr. Mason was a native of Breckinridge County, and was born September 7, 1867, and resided in Kentucky until 1898 when he obtained employment as a machinist in the Illinois Central Shops in Evansville, Indiana. In 1905 he was transferred to Mattoon where he was with the Chase Engine Works until the plant ceased operations some years ago. Mr. Mason is survived by: His widow: Mrs. Dicy Beatty Pate (should be Dicy Beatty Mason), who was formerly of Fordsville one daughter: Miss Marion Mason of the home one son: Earl Mason of the home two brothers: Thomas Mason of Jacksonville, Florida William Mason of Mattingly Arrangements for the funeral had not been made when the relatives from this place left Friday.
