To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Matthews.Allie.1875.Barren.OBIT Allie Matthews September 8 1875 Barren County KyArchives Obituaries Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 23 Sept 1875. "Departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 8th W. A., infant son of W. W. and Lucy Matthews, aged five months and eighteen days. "Yes, little Allie is gone! God pity the stricken parents. None but they who have a child in the grave can tell the full measure of their grief and yet what light and joy shine even amid the shadows that have gathered around them! What abundant springs of consolation are welling fourth from the sacred oracles of God, for those who weep for their children, "Because they are not," but how every murmuring is quieted in the blest assurance that the Lord hath done it. He has acted as a wise and holy sovereign. He gave and he hath taken away. He directs the fall of a sparrow; and, oh! surely when he orders the sad event that tears from the bleeding hearts of his children the little ones they love. All is well with Allie; he has only fallen asleep in Jesus. Their little boy is safe; they need have no fears for him; he is beyond the reach of sin, sorrow and death. Was not that love, indeed, which took him thus young and folded him to his Savior's bosom and wiped away his tears, and sheltered him evermore from all the rude storms of life. "Then dear hearts; forbear thy weeping, Lay their weight of sorrow down, Leave thy gem in Jesus keeping, Lend it to adorn his crown." M. E.
