Matthews, 61, resident of the Boyds Creek section on the Tompkinsville road, died at the Samson Community Hospital Tuesday, at 1:45 pm. He had been ill four weeks and his condition became critical six days ago. "He was born March 25, 1880, and had lived in Barren County all his life. He was a farmer and an outstanding citizen in that community. "Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Matthews; four daughters, Mrs. Ray Parker, Smiths Grove; Mrs Paul Bailey and Mrs Russell Bailey, both of Glasgow, R. 4, and Miss Grace Matthews, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Monroe Graham, Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. Edgar Stout and Mrs Dora Dearing, Glasgow; two brothers, Messrs. Julius Matthews, Portland, Oregon, and Will Matthews, Taylorsville, Ill. "He was a member of the Boyds Creek Methodist Church, where funeral services were held Wednesday, at 3 p.m., the Rev. Ernest Dixon in charge. Interment was in the Glasgow cemetery."
