Submitted by Sandi Gorin NOTE: I have no connection, no further information and am not seeking additional information. "Funeral Sunday for slain couple. By Joel Wilson, Times Managing Editor. "Joint funeral services have been set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the A. F. Crow and Son Funeral Home for Mr. and Mrs. Herman Matthews, Route 1, Glasgow, who were fatally shot Wednesday during a robbery at their home on Highway 68-80 west. "Meanwhile the investigation by the Barren County Sheriff's office and Kentucky State Police continues and a preliminary autopsy report has been received by Barren County Coroner Bob Hunt. "Hunt said Friday that it had been determined that Matthews had been shot three times in the side of the upper chest, one shot completely passing through the arm before entering the chest. "According to Hunt, Mrs. Matthews was shot twice, once is the side of the lower abdomen and once in the side of the upper chest. "Both Mr. and Mrs. Matthews were apparently shot with the same weapon and authorities believe it to be a 25 caliber automatic. "Hunt said that a coroner's inquest will be scheduled later. "State Police and the sheriff's office were running down meager leads Friday, trying to check out descriptions of vehicles reportedly seen in the area around the time of the incident. "The time of the attack on the elderly couple has reportedly been estimated at shortly before 5 p.m. Reports Friday indicated that state police had been told by a passer-by that Mrs. Matthews had been seen running from the garage to the house at about 4:55 p.m. "Mrs. Matthews had reportedly spoken on the telephone at about 4:30 p.m. to a customer, Charles Medley. It was Medley who later discovered Mr. Matthews body at about 5:30 p.m. Medley had called about selling some scrap auto radiators to Matthews and had come to the shop about an hour later to bring the radiators. "State Police are reluctant to discuss the details of their investigation. Detective Tim O'Dell, who is heading the investigation, told reporters that releasing too many details would not be advantageous to the investigation. "The police are acting on the theory, however, that robbery was the motive of the shootings since Mr. Matthews wallet and Mrs. Matthews purse were both missing. He was reportedly known to carry large sums of cash."
