O. Y. MATTHEWS. Mr. O. Y. Matthews, known to his friends as Yancy Matthews, died of typhoid fever at his home in the Poplar Spring country, Monday, at the age of 48 years leaving his wife who was Miss Mary M. Stout, and 7 children: Mr. Ed L. Matthews of Indianapolis, Mrs. Hollis Perkins and Mrs. T. R. Dean of Poplar Spring, Misses Nina G., Cecil W., Katie M. Matthews and Master Samuel N. Matthews who live at the home place. He was the oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Matthews and is survived by one brother, Mr. Lucian Matthews of Temple Hill, and four sisters, Mrs. Judy Anderson of Cave Ridge, Mrs. N. T. Shipley, Mrs. Nellie Lynn and Mrs. J. A. Thomas of the Poplar Spring section.Mr. Matthews was a devout member of the Baptist church and held both the responsible positions of Deacon and Tustee. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Poplar Spring by the Rev. J. L. Dougherty in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives after wh! ich the remains were interred in the cemetery at that place."
