1937-2002

Billie Jean Rice Grubb McDowell, 65, of 3141 Carter Ave., Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Johnson County, Ky., a daughter of the late Luther and Mary Rice.

Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Gene McDowell; eight children, Marie Thomas, Joseph Grubb and Robin McCoy, all of Ashland, Arminda Bishop and Theresa Geeting, both of Tennessee, Eddie Bosley and Brenda Allen, both of Texas, and Denise Franklin of Virginia; one stepson, Ronnie Dean McDowell of Lexington, Ky.; five sisters, Nellie Gillum and Ruth Short, both of Ashland, Josephine Stapleton of West Virginia, Betty Scaggs of Michigan and Gladys Martinez of Washington; two brothers, LeRoy Rice of Ashland and Luther Rice of Portsmouth, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by the Rev. Johney Little. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Mrs. McDowell's residence after 5 p.m. Friday.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
