From: KyArchives [Archives@genrecords.org] Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2004 6:18 PM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: McGinnis-to-Compton.1823.Mercer.DEED Robert Compton - Samuel McGinnis June 5 1823 Mercer County KyArchives Deed Written: June 5 1823 Recorded: July 9 1823 Deed Book 13, page 2 This Indenture made this 5th day of June 1823 between Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife of the County of Mercer and State of Kentucky of the one part and Robert Compton of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred and twenty dollars to them in hand paid the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained soled aliend and confirmed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Robert Compton and his heirs forever a certain tract or Parcel of Land containing twenty seven and one half acres situate lying and being in the County and State aforesaid and on the waters of Chaplain and bounded as follows (to wit) Beginning at a hickory ash and beech trees a corner to Robt. Compton and running S2E 85-1/4 poles to two Ironwoods corner to said Compton thence N88E 11 poles to a buckeye corner to the same thence S2-1/2E 129-1/2 poles to a white oak and sugar tree in William Wades line, thence N89E 53-1/4 poles to a stone ash[?] and Ironwood in George Catons line thence N2-1/2W 215-1/2 poles to a hickory Ironwood and sugar tree in a line of Barney Hughes thence S88W 64 poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with all its appurtenances to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Robert Compton and his heirs forever and the said Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife for themselves their heirs &c Shall and will forever warrant and defend the Said Land and premises against the claim or Claims of all and every other person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. Mitchell and Nelson Mays two of the Commonwealths Justices of the peace for & in Said County and being examined separate & apart from her husband hath voluntarily Relinquished her right & title to the within described tract of Land and consented that the same should be entered of Record given under our hands this 6th day of June 1823.
