From: KyArchives [Archives@genrecords.org] Sent: Tuesday, October 05, 2004 9:59 PM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: McGinnis-to-Grant.1827.Mercer.DEED John Grant - Samuel McGinnis September 17 1827 Mercer County KyArchives Deed Written: September 17 1827 Recorded: April 7 1828 Book 15, page 166 This Indenture made this 17th day of Sept 1827 between Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife of the County of Mercer and State of Kentucky of the one part and John Grant of the County and State afs'd of the Other Part, Witnesseth that the said Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the Sum of Seven hundred and thirteen Dollars 81 cts to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold aliened and confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain, sell, alien & confirm unto the Said John Grant and his Heirs forever One Certain tract or Parcel of land containing One hundred and thirty Seven & one half acres Situate lying & being in the County afs'd and on the waters of Chaplin and bounded as follows, to wit, Beginning at a white oak Corner to William Douglass thence N58E 16 poles to a white oak corner to Samuel McGinnis Jr thence N72W 7 poles to honey locust corner to same thence N9E 99 poles to a beech corner to Same thence S87W 7 poles to a Stone corner to Same thence N1W 119 poles to a stone corner to Same thence S85W 11 poles to a Stake corner to same thence ["same thence" crossed out] Barnabas Hughes thence S1-1/2E 119 poles to a beech Corner to said Hughes thence W100 poles to a hickory and hornbeam Corner to Robert Compton thence S2-1/2E 216 poles to a Stone Corner to Said Compton thence N89-1/2E 83-1/2 poles to a Sugar tree Corner to William Douglass thence with his line N2E 107 poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Grant and his Heirs forever. And the said Samuel McGinnis and Mary his wife for themselves their Heirs &c shall and will forever warrant and defend the Said land and Premises ag't the Claim or Claims of all and any Other Person or Persons whatsoever. Bolling Mary McGinnis (Seal) Mercer County Sct. This day Mary McGinnis a party to the within deed of bargain and Sale Personally appeared before us James P. Mitchell and Nelson Mays two of the Com'w'th Justices of the Peace for and in said County and being examined Separate and apart from her husband voluntarily and of her own accord relinquished her right of Dower in & to the within described tract of land and desired that the same should be made of record. Mercer County Sct April 7th 1828 The foregoing Indenture was this day Produced to me in my office and Proved to be the act and deed of Samuel McGinnis a party thereto by the Oath of James P. Mitchell a subscribing witness thereto & on the 15th day of May same Year the same was fully Proven by the Oath of R. N.
