McGoodwin Daniel McGoodwin was born in Derry, Ireland, on 1 August 1763.He was brought to America in 1769 by his uncle, William Hunter, and his grandmother. They settled in North Carolina, Mecklenberg County. Daniel served three "hitches" with the North Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War. He fought in significant battles. On 1 May 1787 he married Elizabeth Kerr of Rowan County, North Carolina, and, soon thereafter,they started west. They spent some years in Northern Tennessee waiting for the conditions in Kentucky to calm. In or around 1795 they entered Kentucky and settled near Russellville, in Logan County. The farm was said to have been three or four miles NE of Russellville between Duncan's Hill and Muddy River. Daniel and Elizabeth acquired a substantial farm by grants and the like. The couple arrived with, and had in Kentucky, a total of six children. They were Jane, who married James Alison, James Kerr who married Amanda Baker, John who married Susanna White, David W. who married Susan Wigginton, Preston B. who married Grace Machen and William Hunter who married Mary Jane McCutcheon. Daniel was a Colonel in the Cornstalk Militia during the War of 1812. Elizabeth died and was buried in a McGoodwin plot near Russellville, as was Daniel when he died on 25 October 1839. The cemetery is said to be "behind the Moose lodge" on the Morgantown Pike. There is, in the same ground, the grave of Jane Paetin and an Alison child.
